You can probably do that with different groups..

Bukkit has plugins that can create groups and perms and what not.

The only problem with doing all that means that we will no longer be running vanilla, which was something we said we would keep

As long as the plugins don't change the gameplay, it can still be considered vanilla. Plenty of projects do that to protect their work.

IF you get plugins you might also want to get LogBlock and enable the log viewing thing for all players, so everyone can see who edited what block(and who put this item into that chest and when, etc.)

When we first began, before we made the server available to everyone we did in fact try logblock as our primary line of defense for anti grief, but it didn't work for us, so we left it as vanilla... Logblock is all we would need, because it can rollback player actions

Nope, sadly...

I think whoever was responsible will get away with it this time, since it was minor damage, but I would rather them fess up, than have suspicions running through our group. When I get time I'll experiment with getting logblock to work, and if I can, I'll consult the forum on what to do

I can't believe that someone would even try this, after all your hard work! BTW I am new to the team and today will be my first time on the server, I assume I should go work on the apartments? If it is ok I would like to go mine diamonds for the city so we can have extra decorations and maybe some tools for the team. Hope to see all of you every now and then on the server!

getting diamonds and other valuables is detrimental to our project. If you ever have spare time get as much iron gold redstone (well maybe not to much redstone, we have 3+ chests of it) coal and other stuff, we can always always always use more

Any extra resources help really... and I wouldn't say mining for diamonds is detrimental... cause mining for diamonds you always find iron and gold anyway

Amen to that. Might as well look for diamonds, everything else can be found on those levels as well. And diamonds are always useful, both for tools and for decorative blocks.

Today I logged in for a while and went to work again in the abandoned mineshaft behind the atrium. Went down a hall I hadn't before and found several still-dark hallways and two entire still-dark ravines. I threw around four or five stacks of torches, mined a bunch of iron and coal from the walls, ripped out a bunch of fences and planks, and plugged two large holes in the ceiling that were leaking water in from the surface.

Sounds like we'll never clear everything out from the caves
