Major problem with the throne room roof Empty Major problem with the throne room roof

Post  jeffewing997 Fri Feb 10, 2012 9:25 am

I was digging out the throne room roof today and noticed it has a way way way to gradual slope. What splated has already dug out isn't going to work unless nearly double the size of the room. I dug straight down (haters gonna hate) from the what I assumed was the vertex of the roof and ended up 5 blocks away from the wall. It won't work how we have it now. I may be missing something I'm not to sure.

Splated apparently calculated for a radius of 40 instead of a diameter of 40. Oops. I started on the opposite wall, mirrored the first half of his arch design from the first wall, and met in the middle. We've now got a complete arch, albeit a bit pointier than we hoped, but it works. Splated is working on rounding the end at the entrance, I'm working on extending it down the length of the throne room. We should get the whole roof surface finished before we remove all the junk in the center, that way we don't have to build and then remove a scaffolding later when we go through cleaning up the roof surface, adding decorations, and so forth.

I got a corner finished and cleaned i cleared away the junk so you can see it.

I think the pillars need somthing arches connecting them to the roof maybe.

The new lava-core pillars look great.

There's a temporary wooden door in the cobble slanted section of the wall. It leads to an enormous cave system that we've been exploring off and on it seems like forever. I went through a couple weeks ago and threw around 3 or 4 stacks of torches. I know several others have spelunked in there since then. And just now I went through throwing around at least 5 stacks of torches, and there's still plenty of dark tunnels and chambers. There are several deathtrap sections with multiple hard-to-reach dark passages in the ceiling from which mobHs drop on one's head. I know several of us really get into the cave crawling aspects of the game. Hopefully we can get this system cleared out soon.

Me, hera, and jeff gave the massive cave system a good go over. We didnt get everything, and went round in circles for ages, but we went ok i believe... No deaths

I was only there for a part of the trip and left with nothing to show for but 1 1/2 stacks of coal and 3 diamonds. Somewhat unsuccessful for me.

I installed some experimental recessed lighting fixtures in the top section of the roof.

Which was not easy. I have asked several times that people digging out the roof area leave a scaffolding so the ceiling can be accessed. The second-floor-with-holes-punched-in-it design we've got now is pretty darn useless. What is the point? To let us see better the floor when we work on the roof area and vice versa? All it does is mean we're more likely to fall and take a bit of damage, and we've got a longer trip to go pick up the blocks that fall when we work on the ceiling. The second floor should have been left almost completely intact, along with the top layer of the overburden above it, which I had been carefully trying to keep to a consistent pattern leaving all of the roof and walls in easy reach for final detailing and decoration. We have a lot of decoration, lighting redesign, and detailing left to do if we're gonna make this throne room properly spectacular, and now when we work on that, half our time is gonna be wasted building and taking down ugly temporary dirt scaffolding, making the long trip to the stairs to go down and pick up dropped blocks, and so on.

My belief was of just dig as high as you can, and start the next layer of scaffolding from there. However, it wasn't there when I started digging.

The holes is so that it is easier to remove when we tear it down.. Hence scaffolding. Anyway, I didn't do much of the digging and designing, so I really can't say much for either side
