That does indeed look cool. Perhaps we can have a similar thing (maybe requiemmc would even be able to make it for us?) up on the forums once the city is being built, as an official map of the city for people that can't get on the server themselves.

To do with the mines:
If the tunnel going into the mines is going east, then the trunk will be perpendicular to that, so extending (hopefully infinitely) north-south. Since the storeroom is on a higher level, it will not interrupt the branches of the mine.

The dwarf mining was my original project, specifically for multiplayer cooperative mining. It works with one player, or 20 players. And since this was originally a follow-on of the dwarf mining, and we are as dwarves, it make sense to use it Smile

Awesome, I see exactly what you mean.
Also what are thoughts on having multiple mines at different levels/different places. Just because some ores/materials are found at different heights. I don't know do dwarfs have separate Gold mines from diamond mines? Like a mine at 6, 16, 26??

Every ore can be found down on diamond layers so our normal mine will be as good as any other to find them. Should also be able to get some while we dig out other parts of the city as I imagine there'll be parts that go down pretty deep.

Mm I forgot about all of the ores we will most certainly find just digging our city out. That will basically serve as our other mines.. And in my original post I meant ores can be found more abundantly at other levels. So if we needed more iron because we were short we would go up to the iron mine, ect... But again for the amount of excavating and mining we will be doing it probably will not be necessary.

Indeed, especially when it comes to iron. Iron is extremely abundant all the way up to ground level. For every room we dig out for the city we'll get a bunch. As for the lower level ores (gold, redstone and lapis) we wont really need more than we find in the diamond mine and while digging. The only problem I see is that we should have plenty of gold on display, so gold will be as sought after as diamonds for us, as we will find a lot of diamonds in our mine.

Actually I happen to have the gold fever in Minecraft, the gold blocks are just so pretty lol. We'll have to get other people's opinions on this.

Yes indeed. I think that diamond/iron blocks should not be used seeing as they are valuable resources. Gold, other than booster tracks and other minor things is mostly for decoration, and I think dwarfs would approve. BUt without running away with this idea. What should we even make? Statue/shrine wise.

Iron will be plentiful for blocks but it's not much of a decoration. I think the throne room will be the most important place for decorations, perhaps put the few diamond blocks we can spare in there.

I'm sure somebody will come up with some cool monuments to make.

I think a variety of shiny valuable blocks will be good.

Iron and coal will be plentiful where we dig out the city. Our branch mines will be purely for valuables, so that will get us the gold, lapis, and diamonds we need. And of course iron and coal.

Basically, good decoration comes from a central theme, and variety, so if we use all the stuff, rather than just a couple, it could work well

Hmm you can turn Lapis into blocks right? I think so and that would be a good use for it. Because I don't know if I'm missing something but I have almost no use for Lapis in my worlds so I have like a full double chest of it...(Because I don't really like using ore blocks either, in this world.)

Hmmm this gives me ideas then. Well, I think decorating is also just going to be having fun with extra ores Smile

We can even put iron and gold ore blocks around the place, as well as the smelted blocks

Mmm yes! which brings me to another to another question. Will we be making an enchanting room at some point? Then when the explorers come back with muchos exp they will enchant stuff. I would say pick axes because it is the most usefull, and thats what we will be using the most. Then we can get Silk Touch and put Diamond ore blocks around! But obviously the most useful would be Efficiency and Unbreaking. Which often come together on the high level ones... I got Efficiency III and Unbreaking II on my first enchantment...Then Fourtune II only after that. Which would also help for maximizing diamonds Very Happy .

I think that somewhere in the city we should create a massive library-like storage room. I'm sure there will be many chests filled with cobblestone that need to go somewhere. By the way, the farm island idea is awesome.

Yes it is Wink and I took to the idea Smile it sounds really cool... A massive underground lake, with the hermit farmer living in a small hut in the middle...

You've probably seen the sketch I made of it Wink

I've always wanted to make something like the underground city of D'ni, a MASSIVE cavern with a lake in it and a city on islands and the rock wall.

Besides, I'll make some concept stuff about that cave, too.
Will post it here when done :>

Same pic but slightly updated....It'd be nice to have a (small) path around the city, transition land-to-water could be sloped like on the sketch but I think a cliff looks better.

This could be used for various docks around the cave to get to the island from the cave entrance in the wall, and perhaps for fishing and such Razz
And for overlooks Very Happy

Also, why not make a load of skylights instead of just one, like on here?
http://uru.patchallel.com/images/dni_cavern.jpg

The cavern in the above pic does look nice though.
So if we make a cavern, I'd rather not make it round or elliptical but like in the picture, with random rocks and cliffs here and there :>
Something with stalactites/mites around the cave/in the middle/on the walls, etc.

That's cool, I'm getting really thrilled for this lake idea. I'm definitely gonna do a lot of digging for it once we get to that part of the project.
