Today I helped nibble away at the ceiling of the dome room, and lit the scaffolding up a bit better. I also went to the desert and collected two stacks of sand and smelted them into glass, then covered up the lava pit out front with glass so people and animals won't fall in. I grew and harvested three giant mushrooms, harvested and replanted the wheat farm, and cut down and replanted several trees. I doubled the height of the fence around the temporary animal pen, and adjusted the surrounding dirt so that animals can wander into the pen from outside, but can't get out from inside without glitching twice in a row. I made a quick circuit of the surrounding area with wheat in hand looking for chickens, to no avail. We may need to mount a serious expedition to find some chickens, or we will be totally dependent on skeletons for our arrow supply and have darn little use for flint.

I dug, lots Razz
I woke up in the morning and swapped all the dirt and cobble i could find for smoothstone, spent hours trying to figure out how to build the dome, then gave up and just dug out the middle, filled up a double chest, I made a proper path to the spawner, as someone nearly killed themseles getting there, then I went on the most terrible spelunking expidition ever, managed to die four times to creepers...then I dug some more Very Happy

So far (about to get on again) I have dug 22+ stacks out of the ceiling and chopped down a decent amount of lumber. I also did 2 more layers to the outside of the dome following requiem's diagram as best I could.

Minor things include harvesting the farm and repairing the store room. I had a destructive run in with a creeper inside our store room.

I reorganised the torch lighting, hopefully it's cleaner and I've gotten a couple of stacks of stone. I also got half the wheat farm harvested the rest is still growing. I am designing a new scaffolding system that revolves around the torch system.

Good work, guys, and I love reading about what you've done, but this thread kinda defeats the purpose of the progress one.

Unfortunately I have something very important to do for the next 3 hours but then I will probably work for some 12 straight hours or so. Smile

Also, whoever made that lava fountain; great work!

Today I made two runs to the surface to harvest wheat and wood, and made a very, very minor contribution to finishing the dome. I also went down into the caves to try and rescue SD1AN when he got killed and then trapped by mobs while trying (ultimately unsuccessfully) to retrieve his gear, including our first diamond pickaxe. I got killed three or four times, I lost count, but did at least ultimately get pretty much all my own gear back. I also planted a bunch of trees in the entrance dome as a temporary tree farm.

But mostly I worked on the animal pens. They extend out to the right from the Entrance Hall, on two levels (at levels 40 and 48). Level 40 currently has two rooms partially dug out, one intended to be a combo Wheat and Reeds farm, the other a combo Pumpkins/melons/wheat farm. The central 4-wide tunnel between them needs to be extended greatly, and the two rooms need to be finished being excavated. I know the wheat/reeds farm has been fully outlined and just needs the center cleared out and the actual farm installed. I don't recall if I fully outlined the other side yet or not. Upstairs on Level 48, accessed via a dirt ramp which has grass growing up it already, the Chicken Coop is complete and already has 3 chickens in it, as well as a sheep that got brought down the same time as the first chicken, and who is being kept in there temporarily. A cattle pen and pig pen are also being excavated above the two farms, and I think the cattle pen is fully or mostly outlined as well. On both floors, the room across from the outlined room is intended to be an exact mirror duplicate of that one, so if you finish digging out either one, feel free to make the other side look just like that. See the chicken Coop for how to detail the interior, although once we get pumpkin production online I intend to embed jackolanterns in both ceiling and floor of each animal pen, rather than the current system of torch chandeliers in use in the chicken coop as an expedient. Of course, leave out the little egg-throwing balcony from the non-chicken pens. The central hall on the upper floor also needs considerable extension, as both floors will next have 8 sheep pens added which will be only slightly smaller versions of the cattle and pig pens. As neither pigs nor cows eat grass, feel free to surface the floors of those pens in some material other than dirt with grass growing on it, the chicken coop is only floored in grass/dirt to serve as an example for how to do it with the later sheep pens.

Made a temporary railway down to the new storeroom to transport all to be moved by storage cart. Went rather fast, and we can re-use the materials for the mining railways Wink
Also, @spectrumwars, could I make a more efficient chicken egg farm near there?
It takes up 7x7x7 space if you count the collection point.

I setup the store room, helped finish the dome, and helped dig the steps.

also built a cart hopper for the store room.

I'll be on in a couple of hours... I've gotta see how this worked out. From what I'm gathering, do we have a permenant store room now? If so, where?

Today I finished the Wheat/Reeds/Cactus Farm. It's partially automated: behind the rear wall is a stairwell up to where you can pour a single bucket of water in, which will be funneled through a complex network of channels to come out and harvest all the wheat at once, which should yield a total of 84 wheat when all the plants are mature. It will later be retrofitted with redstone and a piston for push-button operation. Reed yield is actually higher, due to the nature of reeds letting you get two units per block planted, for a total of two stacks per full harvest, along with 12 cactus, but that's fully manual for now. That can also be retrofitted to be fully or partially auto-harvesting, of course, but it will take a lot more than one piston. While I was working on that, two other helpful dwarves finished digging out and detailing the Cattle and Pig pens on the second level, and brought down a pair of each species and installed them in their pens. Thanks to our first wheat harvest, we now have three of each species, plus several chickens and a pair of sheep in the chicken coop while they await a pen of their own.

After working on the farms a bit, I went down to the mines with a large number of volunteers and we began construction on the bedrock branch mines. The minecart tracks to and from the first cross-tunnel are now operational, and the first set of stairs to the upper and lower level are complete. There isn't much in the way of tunnels on each level, but each level does have the beginnings of a cross tunnel and at least one or two production tunnels on either side of the central axis. If you want to help, feel free to go down there, pick a tunnel, and extend it in either direction as far as you care to. Please place a torch on either side of each tunnel every four blocks, as this is how we count when it's time to dig a new cross-tunnel and set of stairs. As this first cross-tunnel is a pedestrian-access one, there is a single local crafting and smelting station on the lower level directly under the central axis tunnel. The next cross tunnel will have a slightly more elaborate minecart station and a different arrangement of under-the-tunnel crafting and storage facilities, dictated by the need for space for the redstone wiring of the cart station.

What did I do today? I can barely remember everything :p

Well, in no particular order:

I assisted willandvicky in designing pillars for the entrance tunnel (later pulled down because there was disagreement about it)

I made a shortcut route from the entrance to the dome (via the ravine out the back)

Terraformed outside a bit (covered open stone from where we dug the tunnel) needs a lot more work... Could do with at least another two or 3 stacks of dirt

Designed the lava pit in the dome. Built the bridge over it, and with assistance dig it out, and filled it. Later I went back and added the lava falls.

Helped spectrumwars with the animal pens. Finished digging out the cattle one along with Jeff (which turned out to be the pig pen) and dug out the pig pen (cattle).

With a few others, started the mines. Whilst there, wasted two stacks of the material you all hate, just filling in lava lakes (completely pointless info, but I feel proud of it) now the mine is set up, we've got something to do for everyone who starts to get bored Wink diggy diggy diggy! Wink

It was a stretched out day (well, day for me) but it was still pretty productive. And I didnt see a time when the server was empty

Couldn't sleep, so logged back in and worked on the gourd/wheat manual farm. Got one of the two modules all set up, don't have seeds yet for the melons and pumpkins for the other half yet anyways, gotta wait for my first harvest from the half I do have set up. Tried to go outside and chop some wood, ended up getting blown up by a creeper and killed. Got all my stuff back, but it really cut into my harvest having to come all the way back from the bed in storage at the bottom of the complex. Where is this shortcut via the ravine?

Did another wheat/reeds harvest in the other farm, fed the animals, milked the cows and baked a cake and placed it by the bed in the main storage room for others to enjoy. Did my first harvest of cooked chicken and feathers from the chicken coop, made half a stack of arrows. Killed some time visiting the mines to check on progress, collected a cart someone left down there unattended and returned it to storage. If someone logged out down there, there's more than enough iron smelting in a furnace to make a new cart for the return trip.

I took a bow out of storage, grabbed my shiny new half stack of arrows, some cooked chicken, bread, and soup, and headed up to the surface. It wasn't close enough to dawn, so I stopped off at the giant mushroom room to grow and harvest one red giant mushroom.

I was halfway through chopping it down when I suddenly got booted from the server with zero warning. I was able to log back in immediately...to find myself not in the giant mushroom room, but back in the farms where I'd logged on. With my inventory reset to what it was when I first logged on this evening. No half stack of wood from my first tree harvest, no arrows, no bow, no nub of an iron pick I'd grabbed out of storage, no chicken, no soup. The half of the giant mushroom I was in the middle of chopping up was still hanging in the air. The cake was where I'd placed it in the storage room. The gourd farm module was growing nicely. So everything BUT my inventory and location was where it should be. Anyone have any clue what the heck happened?

The coop was full of baby chicks, so no more feathers for a while. Which means no arrows. Which is fine since there's no bow any more and I am not sure where the string is stored these days. No bow and arrow means I ain't going up to the surface tree chopping after all, as I'm sick of having to fight creepers with a sword while lagging on SMP so they seem to teleport and have an annoyingly long detonation range. Do we have a tree farm yet, and what happened to the temporary one in the dome? That was an awesome idea!

The easiest way to find the shortcut is to go to the entrance to the zombie spawner from the entrance tunnel, and swim up the waterfall on the left, and you should see some ladders.

That sounds like what happened on the initial dig when Bren changed something on the server control panel and we all got booted and ended up exactly like you did. I wasn't around when this happened to you, so unless Bren did something on the control panel again I have no clue what it could be. I hope it wont happen again.

I'll go chop some wood soon, just doing a lot of branch mining atm. A tree farm is however one of many things we currently need to build.

The other half of the gourd/wheat farm is done. Remember how I got screwed by the server-control-panel update glitch, and how I was booted from the server with my pockets stuffed with goodies, then respawned with my location and inventory reset to the start of that session, when I had much less cool stuff in my inventory?

Well, to avoid future incidents like that, I switched from my previous habit of emptying my inventory of valuable/rare/precious items like a gold clock, diamond tools, armor of any kind, and so forth, and putting those into a chest, so others could use them while I was away...to not doing so. I make sure i've got as much survival-gear as I need to survive being walled in somwhere, or finding my way back to the cave if I respawn on top of the mountain, which has happened a few times.

So the very next time I log back in, I don't spawn in the storage room where I logged out. I don't even respawn on top of the mountain. No, I respawn in a lava pit (apparently underneath the main storeroom), and before I have time to think anything beyond "Aaargh! Where did all this lava come from," I'm dead and all my stuff is fried. Gold Clock. Minecart. Everything.

I just can't win.

That spawning thing is crazy, I wish I knew what causes it. I've spawned on the surface plenty of times, and I thought spawning in water at night with a skeleton firing at me was bad... it doesn't really come close to spawning in lava!

Occasionally when you renter a SMP world, you will spawn directly above where you were (which could hav happened to you with the lava. )

Daily report:

I didn't have too much of a chance to play today.

I made the shortcut route from entrance to dome safer and easier

I mined for one inventory full, without much luck in valuables

I began on the lapis gem in the veiling. 1.5 stacks and we are barely started. We'll need a heap more. I'm leaving the outside layer for glowstone, and we'll put some gold or iron in the centre.

I terraformed outside (coevered up the exposed stone from the tunnel), took down the temp animal pen and wheat farm.

I farmed about 1 stack of wood to keep us going a little longer.

And now our streak is gone... the server is empty Sad

I also mined my inventory full yesterday and got a bunch of everything, and then found 5 diamonds behind the last 2 blocks I mined.

It does indeed look like it's been a bit inactive lately. We just passed the most active hours and it doesn't seem like there's really been anyone on. The only progress I see is the new entrance (good job with it) and the egg farm near the zombie spawner.
