Just wanted to throw this out there Very Happy Firstly so I could learn of other great musics, and secondly so I could share what I think is some awesome stuff. pirat
My favourite game soundtrack, recently, has gotta be Skyrim's main theme:

My favourite movie soundtrack, well I can't put it to just 1, but the soundtracks from LOTR and The Hobbit.

Most of the games I play have old-style twinkly MIDI synth soundtracks. But the Total War series has some decent music. My favorite would be Medieval II Total War, which has this neat instrumental piece as its main battle theme...but once you beat the game, over the end credits it plays a version with lyrics. ANTI-WAR LYRICS. So only once you have slaughtered and backstabbed and assassinated and genocided your way to conquering Europe for the God of your choice, you get to hear the following song, reminding you that your enemies love their children too, and that in the end, the only thing worth fighting for is Love, and even then, "fighting" only in a strictly metaphorical sense. It's so bizarre that it has to count as aversion therapy or something.

As for movie soundtracks, there are many awesome ones. My favorite would have to be Prokofiev's soundtrack to the 1930's masterpiece of Soviet propaganda, "Alexandr Nevskiy".

Other awesome but obvious contenders are the Star Wars and LOTR films. I attended the world premiere of the concert version of the LOTR soundtrack, and saw composer Howard Shore in person sitting 5 feet in front of me.

One also must love Basil Poledouris and his awesome soundtracks for crappy movies.

James Horner also does great work on movies both great and awful. For bonus points, his name is one letter off from that of my father.

To be completely honest, I love the majority of movie and video game music.

Look up John Williams movie scores, played by the London Symphony Orchestra for some of the most famous movie music. Personally, my favourite is the Jurassic Park theme

The London Philharmonic Orchestra does covers of some great video game music too, from the tetris theme (which is done really well), to the theme from battlefield 3, and even angry birds.

Basically, any orchestral game or movie music I get really into if it's done well, as it can really tell a story, and get you into things

And of course you can't say no to Danny Elfman and his great music that fits perfectly in style with all those Tim Burton films he's done the music for

And also, it's not technically movie or video game, but the game of thrones theme is actually really well done

It's the only show I've been bothered to follow episode by episode for the past 2 years. My friend told me to watch it as the second season started and I can't say I regret it. He did however switch to reading the books so as I no longer had anyone to discuss episodes with I made my mom start watching it too Smile

It's an epic show, however the books are even better than the show itself... except that the TV show in the second season destroys the books, and even the first episode of the third is already differing

Of course, the books are always better. The show is great though so reading the books before watching all of it would completely ruin it. Although perhaps reading them after watching the show might not be all that fun if they change a lot for the show. I'll stick with the show though, as I've already seen 2 seasons and it'd be ages before I got around to reading the books anyway (not to mention the show is awesome)

Reading the first book was difficult, because I knew the story line... The second book was hell, because of the changes they made, particularly to the story of daenerys. Then from the third book onwards I couldn't stop reading

Daenerys, eh? I've heard that she was a very disliked character in the books while she's a favorite in the show. Another reason to stick to the show Very Happy

I don't know, she's pretty badass too and they haven't really given us a reason to dislike her
