Re: Actually digging out the farm cave

Ok, yes we are doing more digging.. The original size of the cave was to be 40*50.. the quarry is only 30*40... this is because it it so much easier to dig out the blocks to make the shape, than to place it. So the rectangle is the inner boundaries... Sorry to burst you bubble :p
I was originally thinking have it so that the water is on layer 20, which means the dirt layer at foot height on 19...

For the roof... that's a tricky one... it's also the reason I was against making it a quarry in the first place... We now need to figure out where to put the roof for the thing. I say we make one at a random height then change it for what looks good as we go

That's good, it's indeed easier to shape it that way and more digging is always welcome. As for the dirt layer, if it will be on 19 it means you will see 21 on f3 when you stand on it, and 21 is what you see when you stand on the level we are right now so we're done digging down.

ok, you're confusing me lol :p If you place dirt on the floor of the abandoned mineshaft... that's the layer for the dirt lol

Alright, we figured it out. Thanks to recent changes we now have 2 more layers to dig, which I might be able to do right now.

Even in the "old system" we still would have had 2 more layers to dig

There's a ton of bothersome mineshafts right under where you want the dirt layer :/

funny how at one time an abandon mineshaft would have been a welcome sight. Wink

They most certainly used to be. Now I just wish I had a reason to still enjoy them. Neutral

So I got on to help sret finish covering the floor of the quarry with dirt. I also gave a quick shot at rounding out one of the corners of the quarry, but just a the lower levels. Overall it was tricky to get it to look round and I am still unsure of how deep our rounding should go. My attempt/test is about 4-5 blocks deep, which seems shallow for our purposes.

regarding water level height, the Y coord now is show for what level your feet are on. I don't know if that helps, but it starts to really get confusing if you get them mixed up.

I already had a big discussion about that with Bren today. It was confusing indeed.

The farm cave walls in the first room are too flat. I think we need to dig them out at the bottom more.

They are not exactly finished yet, naturalizing is the next step. As you can see we have already started that in one corner.

We have the bottom of them dug... The will be the shape of the floor (or close enough) at the end... So now we need to dig out the walls a bit (a lot!) more... It won't be vertical... It will go in and out... So in actual fact the pit will extend even further out...

That's the bit I'm slowly working on, as most people don't seem to be confident enough with natural digging, and just want to mindlessly dig out chunks of stone (which is a lot of fun, I must admit)

Just a quick note; whoever decided to go nuts with cobble in the mining area, please try to refrain from doing that in the future. At first it looked like you simply wanted to block off a few shafts to avoid getting jumped while mining, which is understandable, but it turns out you cobbled up entire solid walls. Looks like you tried to build a cobble room or something, which is a waste as we're gonna dig it all out so it only creates extra work. Also if you feel the need to patch up the floor, use dirt for that as we're gonna make it all dirt eventually. Bottom line is don't use any cobble, please Smile

The island and size of it is about right, Bran. What were you expecting? And why did you delete your post? =P

'cause I realised it wasn't the actual caves XD I didn't look it through carefully enough, a rare mistake on my part. o.O I don't know what I was expecting, but that looked epic, and I'm sure the actuall farm caves are/will just as everything else in this city. Very Happy

Ah. Also another thing I wanted to mention, how exactly is it going to be flooded? Because if you want the water to be even and still I'd reccommend either flooding a 1 block deep pit of water and then dig down the shape you want (with aqua infinity for faster mining ect), or after you've dug your shape for the pit, make a platform 1 block down from water level, and place a pool at water level, then remove the platform, therefore flooding the lake nice and evenly. Cool

Unless you wanted a more,,, "rural(?(couldn't think of anything else))" lake to suit with maybe great waterfalls decending from the skies of the cave, crashing down like a roar of thunderrrrrr! To grow crops on. pirat

We're replacing the entire floor with a dirt layer, and I think the current plan is to shape beneath it before flooding. We'll probably just replace the dirt with water and accept the resulting currents.
