Just letting you guys know, after a few more torches, I have released all the villagers, bar two, which I have kept locked underground, with signs above them... This is in case the inevitable happens, and a stray zombie slaughters them

I've also spread the doors around the village, so we'll have a larger range of villagers... and I've started throwing eggs

Eggs? Do villagers like chickens or have I missed something?

The ice farming design is really just from a video that I saw. The one I am putting down is small, but if needed it can be expanded. It's a pretty simple concept that can be made more efficient with the use of pistons.Brendanan wrote:Can you put up a link of this ice farming thing? I'm interested

Yeah, I read into the mechanics of ice... As long as you've got an infinite water source, where at least one block will freeze, and the others won't, then you're set... Then expand

So, I've done some more work on the village, and increasing population. About to get back on. We now have a church and blacksmith in there too

Re: So what did YOU do today?
Ok, I think I need to see someone about this MOCD (Minecraft OCD)... It is to the point where I would relocate entire houses 1 block... 1 BLOCK!!!
Anyway... I did some more work on this village (digging really isn't appealing at the moment). We have a slow breeding population (no more than 1 kid at a time running around), but they are increasing their numbers. Still yet to see a priest though. And after some re-alignments, I think the place is starting to look alright

Re: So what did YOU do today?
I finally poked my nose into the server after a prolonged absence.
I made my way up to the surface and to the NPC village near the main entrance to our fair city. Got ambushed by 3 creepers at once the moment I leapt (unsuccessfully) over the tripwire for the new unwelcome mat. Managed to get away before the creepers could explode, turned once at the top of the ridge and rained arrowy death upon them from above. Got all three creepers, then another en route to the village, and 2 more at the village fence. Met up with Mimodo at the village, watched as he remodeled and repositioned some houses. Ran into a villager willing to sell me an emerald for only 23 coal, which I happened to have on me at the time. Made the deal..and later ran into another villager willing to sell emeralds for only 19 coal. Ah well. Spent a day and the night at the village, picking up blocks for Mimodo, fighting mobs at the fenceline, picking up chicken eggs, throwing a few extra torches around, and generally farting around unproductively. At dawn Mimodo guided me to the Farm Cave excavation and showed me around briefly and then went back to his habitat-for-demihumanity activities. I wandered around a bit, finding a secondary ladder up along one of the border chasms, and tore down some fences and planks from an abandoned mineshaft structure. Fought a few mobs up there too, got an iron shovel off a dead zombie, and threw around a stack or two of torches to cut down on mob spawns. Eventually I settled down and found a nice spot where I could dig out 2x2 strips and fit in with existing excavation patterns, up near the ceiling along one of the border chasms, at the top of a secondary ladder. Ran into a partially lit cave and lit it up better, dug out some coal and iron, and turned about four or five stone picks worth of smoothstone in the cave into cobble in a chest. Put everything away in the storage room and called it a night. Not much of a start, but it's better than not logging in at all.

Re: So what did YOU do today?
For some reason I can't reach any Minecraft servers atm. Am I the only one or is Minecraft down or something?
Edit: I realized I wouldn't be able to login if Minecraft was down so I checked our server and it turns out the machine it's hosted on is temporarily offline due to an OS upgrade. Damnit =/

Re: So what did YOU do today?
Hopefully it doesn't take long Gives me time to write some stuff anyway... Spent a day building a model as assessment, so I want to do something a bit different...
Oh yeah, my day on the server (brief as it was), consisted of my usual screwing around with villagers and eggs, and a trip to the store room and back (I forget what the purpose was, but I got rid of a few misc items clogging up space, and grabbed a few torches).
I repositioned one of the houses one block (as it wasn't quite right), only to realise it needed moving 2 blocks... so I moved the same house twice. I then moved another one block, and threw in a path down that way.
I've put up a bunch of fencepost pillars around the place, which can later be used for light poles, I just don't know if we want to use the traditional village style wool on top, or something a little more fancy, like glowstone...

Re: So what did YOU do today?
Moving entire houses sounds like a terrible chore. When I realize they're off I just cry inside and abandon the project.
I don't see why we shouldn't make them fancy, as a gesture of the bond between the villagers and us dwarves.

I have no idea. I see no reason why it wouldn't.

Re: So what did YOU do today?
Came back on, chopped some trees for wood, dug five stacks of sand out of the desert to make glass for a ladder tube safety improvement before remembering there was half a double chest of sand already in storage at the farming cave dig site, dug another few stone picks worth of stone out of the same spot at the top of the secondary ladder.
