Dwarven Museum/record hall Empty Dwarven Museum/record hall

Post  Brendanan Sun Jul 22, 2012 7:38 am

This is just an idea...

We killed the ender dragon, and have it's egg, so instead of having it in a chest hidden up the back of our store room, we should have it on display...

I'm thinking we create a museum style of thing, or a record hall, bragging about our enormous wealth. We currently have a large space to use where the old zombie grinder was, so how about we utilise that space to make this gallery? It makes sense to have it close to the entrance, to wow people before they've even seen half the city.

What I was thinking is to just have it a couple of hallways as a +, with the egg situated on a pedestal in the centre of that.

Down each individual hallway we can have different blocks on display, with a sign below... Perhaps when writeable books come out we can make a short description about them too...

I'm not sure whether we should have a space for every block, or just the more valuable ones (ores, clay, jungle wood)

What do you think?

A mining museum ain't a bad idea. We could have another couple of iron golems and snow golems in cages, bookshelves, maybe combine it with the Dwarven Library we were talking about. Include samples of valuable ores and the different types of rock as educational exhibits. Maybe a scale-model rock-layer mural on a wall with dirt and sand and water (behind glass) at the top with saplings standing in for trees, then a large vertical display of the different ores found at different depths, with obsidian at the bottom standing in for bedrock and a small lava-behind-glass lava lake?

As soon as you mentioned this on the server I thought it was a great idea. We should probably only have displays for extremely valuable things like diamond blocks or the dragon egg.

My mockup... It's incomplete, but it's just a general idea of what I was thinking for it

The Dragon Egg should probably be in a chamber with walls or floor of End Stone.

I was tempted to try something with end stone (the egg sits on top of the fence, but it's not in creative inv)

Just realised a major flaw in this plan I made... The entrance we have is 4 wide, for the egg to be centred, it need to be an odd number

I have the OCD of symmetry, rather than even/odd... I also cannot have a single stick/plank, or an odd number of them.

Having a variation in odd/even is good, for double doors etc. but since we really can't make this entrance odd, we'll have to come up with a way around it, whilst still making it look good

I HATE having an odd number of sticks/planks! I always end up with a useless single one left, just sitting there bugging me because I can't throw stuff away. I usually try to solve it by making an extra sword or something but single planks are the worst.

I overcome the sticks thing with torches. Coal doesn't bug me as much as sticks and planks.

I also hate having damaged tools sitting in a chest. If they're in a chest, they're brand new. This means that I MUST use that first wood pick I make. This pick is usually compensated for by a bed, which gives me back to an even number though

I do that too but I don't usually carry around coal so it's not always a possibility.

I hate that first wood pick. It seems to never end and I make stone picks and use those and I see that pesky wood pick sitting there in my inventory and gotta force myself to use it.

Haha I was just thinking we did it again and then I noticed you mentioned it too. I need to get my priorities straight, I always postpone replying to the actual topic then jump in on things like this and end up killing the thread instead =p

Hahaha!!! Well, I'll try and do a few more mockups and find a way around the problem anyway... If only my internet was reliable enough to continue digging... I think 90% of the players are out of action right now

Back on topic Cool I think that combining the museum and library is an awesome idea! Show off a little! The museum could also contain a dwarven "history" that we can create. It would be written in books but we could have statues and stuff on display. What you think? bounce

hmmm.... combining the two...

The original idea was to have this as a smaller section of the city, which was just to showcase the valuables, but if we were to expand it, it would have to be much larger. Then the question is of space. We want it to be close to the entrance... what's the point of trekking through the entire city just to see our record hall...

In this case I fail to see your logic. Are we supposedly going to have a bunch of visitors that want nothing more than to see our record hall without having to see the rest of the city? scratch

Re-reading I also fail to see my logic...

I'm pretty much undecided on whether we make it really big, and showcase a lot of stuff, or have it relatively small, as a trophy cabinet or whatever.... Thinking option B
