Entrance Hall decoration ideas.
Hi guys,
I have been playing with decoration ideas for the Entrance hall i've got a mock up in creative.
This is what i've come up with so far..
The lava fountains fill the space and light it enough to stop mobs from spawning.
the gold borders of the walkways could be replaced with iron or Lapis
This is what the roof will look like once we get enough lapis

I think they were going for more of a hanging gem in the roof, but other than that I like it a lot! The floor looks awesome.

Re: Entrance Hall decoration ideas.
We should probably either do the hanging gem thing, or have a second ring of glowstone or something else in the center area to break up the monotony. I do kinda like the lava fountain idea, but make sure the rims are such that we can't accidentally run into the lava when sprinting through the hallway. We should find enough netherfence to make a railing around the lava pit with it, I've almost fallen in a couple of times.

That looks nice, but I was hoping that we would dig out the four smoothstone areas beside the walkway and put something beneath. I think it would look cool if it was just an intersecting bridge over darkness.

I agree with the ring of glowstone in the centre
Now, is that enough light o keep us alive? Does It stop those asshole creepers???
I think the only way you could possibly burn is if you're being an idiot. I always sprint across the dome, and run along the edge of the bridge, and jump from gold block to gold block and haven't died yet. There is plenty of room, and if we are going to add safety, it will be only temporary. I think caution is better than throwing other stuff atound

Re: Entrance Hall decoration ideas.
I swear I just posted this, but it isn't showing up.
A bridge over darkness would spawn mobs below, meaning skeletons shooting arrows at us as we crossed the bridge, endermen teleporting up into our halls even more than they do already, and slimes...well, slimes will spawn anyways, but hey.
How about we dig out the area like he said, but then put around the ring walls of this pit thus created the sort of balcony apartments in that Dwarven Residential Concepts thread? Instead of putting those in a ravine, we put those in the central dome.

I can't believe that didn't occur to me. Anyways, I actually really like the idea of incorporating the residential area into the heart of the city.spectrumwars wrote:I swear I just posted this, but it isn't showing up.

On the grounds that we don't want to start more projects I think we can stick to the lava fountains for the moment.
I do like the idea of digging out the floor later to add a second level with stairs going around the sides of the Pit. lets finish the projects we have first
I've tested this setup and no mobs will spawn at this level of lighting.
What do you mean by the hanging gem thing i've tried a few diffrent things with the gem but in the end i have found that you get much better lighting with the glowstone on a layer lower than the gem.
Gem
Glowstone
workes better than
Lapis block Glowstone block.
When they are the next to each other you lose a lot of light. but for the moment we dont have nearly enough lapus blocks to finish even a flat surface let alone a 3d one.

I don't like the idea of digging out the dome floor, but I do have some ideas for the residential area to do with the dome
Re: Entrance Hall decoration ideas.
Ok, req, do you think you could do a mockup of the housing a level down? Or just a dug-out floor? Or if someone else would like to try it, I could try something
Re: Entrance Hall decoration ideas.
Even if we dug out the side areas by just a couple blocks I think it would add some much needed depth. I was looking at the Entrance Hall today and I think I see the direction it's going in. So far the only complaints I have are the yellow wool and the netherbrick fences. (They look a bit out of place.)
As I was looking I realized that we could keep the ceiling dimly lit. With the bright crystal is the center and the decorative walkways below it would really highlight the best parts about the dome.
Anyways these are just some thoughts and ideas I had. I haven't been much help on the actual server lately because I've been busy.

Re: Entrance Hall decoration ideas.
No one was on last night and since we are still working on the track system I did not want to use gold that may have been needed for powered track.
Besides not sure we have any blocks right now i didn't think to check.
The yellow wool is going to be replaced by gold blocks eventually promise.
I do like the idea of lowering the hight so the walkways are raised. What do everyone else think?
Bren i will work on the mockup but haven't had much time today to do anything.
