Puteulanus Astrum
As an idea for the main hall, instead of a skylight, we can put in the Puteulanus Astrum, or blue star.
This will be a massive blue gem (lapis blocks) in the roof of the dome, with gold blocks spotted throughout. The great centrepiece of our civilisation. It also gives us something to do with all that lapis other people liked the idea, what does everyone else think?

Re: Puteulanus Astrum
Sounds like an awesome goal. I'm all for it. Did some searching online and about all I found were blog posts or courses on Latin. I'm now curious where this is from.

Isidar mithrim... From eragon. We chose a name for it, then translated to Latin to give the awesome name.
But the idea was from eragon originally

Re: Puteulanus Astrum
Shouldn't we come up with something original instead of stealing things from movies? o.o

Re: Puteulanus Astrum
Screw the movie! This is from the book... And it's a similar idea, not the same... And I'd rather not have a skylight, as we have one for the farms
Re: Puteulanus Astrum
We have farms?
We don't need to make a skylight, but let's come up with something on our own. =P

Re: Puteulanus Astrum
You do realise that that isn't the name of the Sapphire in the books, we got the idea from Isidar Mithrim but we decided to make up a different name, I think we should still have a skylight circling around the crystal, it would be nice to see sunlight.
Isn't Puteulanus Astrum a bit too wordy?

Re: Puteulanus Astrum
Lol... It's Latin... That's what you expect... It's just a translation of something stupid
Re: Puteulanus Astrum
I'm pretty sure that it's rather bad Latin. And if we're gonna use bad Latin, let's at least use bad Latin that doesn't sound so close to the Spanish word for "Prostitute".
How about the Astrum Ceruleum? It means Sky Blue Star rather than simply Blue Star, and at least has the right non-adjective order.

Haha... Do you know Latin? All I know is that's what google translate gives us :p
But why can't we have a prostitute on the ceiling

I did study it for 3 years in school. My sister studied it for 9, I'll double-check with her over dinner tonight.
Re: Puteulanus Astrum
If we are going for latin, do we want to get the Latin name for our city??? Or give it a name in Latin?

"Civitas Nanos" would be "Dwarven City", I think. Probably got the endings wrong though.
Re: Puteulanus Astrum
Mountain Home should translate to Mons Domus. I like the sound of that.

Re: Puteulanus Astrum
I had an idea for the main dome.
What if we put in a wide carpet and line the carpet with jack o lanterns. they provide light and remove the need for all the torches on the floor.
The pumpkins give the rug a sort of finished tassel edge look.
The idea could work with any color wool

Re: Puteulanus Astrum
I like that idea. The first dyed sheep were red, so as to enable a red carpet in the Throne Room eventually. But we'll soon have plenty of wool, and we already have plenty of pumpkins for jackolanterns.
Re: Puteulanus Astrum
That looks really really nice, and makes me want some ice cream. I think Bren said carpets and stuff don't fit into our theme though, other than in the throne room.

I don't think I like the Jack O' Lanterns but I do like the Idea of a path lined with Light.Splated wrote:I had an idea for the main dome.

Re: Puteulanus Astrum
It's a col looking thing, and a great idea for the lighting, but does it really fit with the dwarven theme? This is supposed to be an underground city of stone, not fancy coloured wools and pumpkins :p (that's a little smartass there, don't be offended
